Hearing Aid
Compatible Phones
|
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has recently updated the Hearing Aid Compatibility Act of 1988 (“HAC Act”), passing a ruling which requires cell phones be rated according to their hearing aid compatibility in terms of RF remissions and telcoil coupling. Some digital phones may cause interference for hearing aid users. This is why Simmetry offers a variety of hearing aid compatible phones to fit all of our customers needs. Below is a list of phones along with their ratings.
Phones with an M-Rating or M3 or M4 meet the FCC requirements and are less likely to generate interference to hearing devices than phones that are not labeled. M4 is the better of the two ratings. A telecoil is a small device that is built into some hearing aids for use with the telephone as well as assistive listening devices. Not all hearing aids have telecoils. Phones with a T-Rating or T3 or T4 rating meet FCC requirements and are more likely to work well for those who use hearing devices with telecoils.
